Organisational Conflict Management Support

A recent study published in the UK shows that workplace conflict is costing UK employers 28.5bn a year. An older study from 2008 found that U.S. employees spend 2.8 hours each week dealing with conflict which comes to $359 billion in paid hours (based on an average hourly wage of $17.95) in companies across the country. Apart from the obvious costs incurred as a result of staff turnover or costs in dispute resolution, the more difficult to quantify costs of disengagement, poor decision-making, and loss of opportunities for innovation and creativity, poorly managed workplace conflicts have a significant impact on business performance and even the reputation of an organisation. At individual level, a workplace conflict can go as far as to push people into depression, the UK study showing that this was the case for approximately 60 per cent of workers involved in workplace conflict.

Workplace conflict can lead to significant negative outcomes, both in terms of financial costs and employees’ wellbeing.

What can we do to address this? As part of my practice, I offer several types of support to organisations that want to constructively harness the creative power of workplace conflict and adjust processes, structures, and procedures to ensure conflict fitness and psychological safety.

Together, we can find ways to channel employee concerns and conflicting views into formulating solutions to organisational problems.
